2008 GIM Rounds

Gentlemen and Ladies -

Now that we are in the new year, are there any plans for the 2008 version of the GIM rounds?

I need some 2008's to keep the 2007's company !!!

Re: 2008 GIM Rounds

My 07's haven't broken even yet. Opted for insured shipping, and then also got screwed for tax when they cleared customs as numismatics. I will break even at $19. The originals will be worth more than any other years anyhow.

I don't know what planet you are from; but some of us sleep at night. If we don't change anything but the date, it shouldn't be expensive to come up with the dies. I'm good for 20 rounds if someone else wants to be project manager.

Put me down for some Sammies as well.
I've seen what his comments can do to the POS.
I figure if we actually struck a coin, in Silver, of Sammy, the POS would immediately approach infinity.
Or we could mint them in Gold, just for the irony value.:D

Ya know - I got some of last years rounds - and I'd probably get a few more if they changed the year but kept the same die.........

But - dumb as this is gonna sound........

I'd probably pick up a few more if they were Silver Sammies!

I can't even quite figure out WHY! But MAYBE because - in its own goofy way - Sammy is more representative of something solely and specifically GIM-related than a minuteman or a bull!!!

Yeah - I think thats why!

Cheers!

Who knows, they might like the "Debt is Slavery" concept?

How many GIMers have given Paul a GIM round so far? I'm guessing at least 3?

He signed my copy of the Declaration, Articles, and Constitution (one book, didn't make him sign all 3). After that I handed him a Bull in the plastic. For a second I think he wasn't sure if it was for him or if I wanted it signed, and he said something like "is this for me?" and I said it was for him.

I had actually thought of having him sign the plastic on one of the rounds, but the book meant more to me (not to disrespect the rounds).

He was mobbed by people wanting to shake his hand or have him sign something, so he didn't get a good look at it, but if he's gotten more than one, I'd guess if he took a good look at it later he recognized the design.

I think he has three. I gave him a bull round at his birthday bash in Texas City last summer.

I think TnAndy posted a pic of him giving Dr. Paul a minute man round,
and Abouthadit gave him the first one which was also a minute man round,

Yes, but there is a new demographic active in the GOP now. I'm sure it will not be the totality of RP supporters, but a non-negligible constituency will go on to work towards the founding of a truly conservative wing of the GOP. This is much larger than this one presidential election.

thats why i was suggesting it be commemorated on the 2008 round.

or if it fizzles, in memoriam to the last, best hope for the USofA...

I missed out on the ordering last year but was able to buy up some of both types that went unclaimed. I gave one each to my 2 boys and Dad as gifts. The boys think they are way cool.
I would follow through on 20 Sammy Silvers, especially if the "Debt is Slavery" motto is on them.
When I ask my six year old what Silver Sammy says, he'll shoot back with a finger point, a wink, and "Debt is Slavery Baby." Gotta love it. :D

I'll buy that too. Silver Sammie and Ron Paul rounds for 2008.

I don't know anyone today that's done more to promote the cause of gold as money than Ron Paul.

He doesn't need to be elected to have made his mark. He might be the Thomas Paine of 2008.

There's been a request to make the coin a pieces of 8, so that it would be easily split, in the inevitable event that silver reaches 100 an oz.

Sounds only logical to me.

Pieces of 8, 2008.

I'm curious about the possibilty of this idea also. My gut tells me that last year the GIM rounds were a real pain in the butt for Scorpio and others, and he may not want to deal with the hassle again. I don't recall any responses from the mods to the threads I've seen regarding GIM 2008 rounds, but I could certainly me mistaken.

I would be interested in getting a roll also. Although both SS and RP are good suggestions I would prefer a more timeless theme such as the MM or as someone mentioned, last years with a date change to keep costs down, after all the price will most definitly be higher this year.
Maybe someone could put up a vote thread for designs and another for mottos. I do like the DIS motto.

FROM THE OTHER 2008 GIM ROUND THREAD..............>>

I think that - maybe - the reluctance, or lack of movement on this is due - in part - to the fact that, when the original coins were made, some people who placed requests for coins didn't follow thru and buy them and, in the end, while they finally sold out, it was a harder push than expected. APMEX and Lone Star had quite a few left over to sell and people here were "encouraged" to buy extras.

If I was a mod - while I wouldn't rule out further rounds - I would have a good second think about how it was done and if it was worth the trouble.

Its not like these rounds will ever have collectors value - they are rounds, nothing more, that have no additional value except the sentimental value to those who post here.........so its not like the general public would be chomping at the bit to buy the excess.
